WEST HAVEN, Aug. 24, 2015 — The West Haven Public School District is set to welcome back students Aug. 27, which is a full day of school and also the start of full-day kindergarten classes in all six district elementary schools.

The district is reminding families of some back-to-school basics regarding registration, busing, the food services program, and other beginning-of-the-year information.

·         The Food Services Department will be serving breakfast and lunch at all schools starting on the first day of school. Any families who may be eligible for free or reduced meal prices should fill out a form as soon as possible. Forms can be found at and at school, and must be submitted by Oct. 1. Click here to print the form and for an FAQ.

·         Bus routes will be in full effect starting the first day of school. Parents are responsible for their children arriving safely at the assigned bus stop in the morning and are strongly encouraged to be at the stop to greet their children in the afternoon.  Kindergartners will not be allowed off the bus without a parent or guardian there to greet their child.  Due to the implementation of full-day kindergarten this year, no child in that grade will receive door-to-door bus service.

·         Parents of students who are not taking the bus for the first few days of school or who won’t be taking the bus during the school year should notify the school before classes start or by sending a note in on the first day of school.

·         Kindergartners will follow the same school hours and arrival and dismissal times as the rest of the grades in their schools. Check school websites for exact schedules.

·         Families will be receiving school letters about their students’ assigned teachers and rooms within the next few days, if they haven’t received them already.

·         Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack, pencil and folder. Lists of any additional school supplies needed may be distributed to students then, if the lists haven’t yet been announced by students’ teachers.

·         The district is again using the online registration system Infosnap to update student and family information. Families will soon be receiving log-on information from school about accessing and updating their accounts. Infosnap can be accessed by clicking here. En Espanol.

·         Students must also provide two proofs of residency to their school, as per the district’s annual requirement. Acceptable proofs include copies of a lease or mortgage statement and copies of utility, phone or cable bills. Families should fax or bring the proofs of residency to school before classes start, or students can bring the proofs of residency on the first day of school.

·         Students needing medication to be administered by school staff must have a written order from their health care provider.

·         Parents of any students who are brand new to the district are reminded to attend a registration session at Molloy School, if they haven’t already. Remaining registration sessions at Molloy are Aug. 26-28, Aug. 31, and Sept. 1-4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and require two proofs of residency, the student’s birth certificate, and copies of the student’s most recent report card or school records, as well as a copy of his or her most recent physical exam and immunization records. New students cannot register at school; they must register at Molloy. Anyone with registration questions may call 203-937-4360 X7126.

·         New students will not be able to start school the same day they register.

·         New students and children entering kindergarten who have not yet completed a physical exam cannot start school until it is completed.

As the new school year kicks off, families are encouraged to download the school district’s free cell phone app by searching “West Haven Public Schools” in their device’s app store. The app will have notifications, menus, calendars, schedule changes, school and teacher contact information, links to Infosnap, Parent Portal, PTA webpages, and more.

Families are also reminded that school menus for August and September, updated bus runs, and applications for free or reduced lunch prices are online at and on the cell phone app.
