About Mr. Battista's art program at Pagels School.

The art program at Pagels School provides students with a rich foundation in art. The program incorporates the National Art Education Standards, Connecticut Standards for the Visual Arts, a Discipline Based Art Education philosophy (DBAE), and West Haven’s goals for art education.

Students in grades K-5 work in media such as crayon, paint, clay, print-making, paper maché, and collage and master skills such as cutting, pasting, painting, etc. Lessons often integrate classroom themes in language arts, social studies, and science, while incorporating art history, aesthetics, and art reflection.

The curriculum for each grade level is designated to nurture student’s creativity and problem-solving skills. Lesson incorporate multiculturalism, and creative problem-solving. Students choose a medium, apply the elements and principles of art, use appropriate vocabulary, include content and symbolism, and reflect and evaluate the outcome of their work and the work of others.
